Danaher Employees Support Empty Stocking Fund
December 10, 2012
Employees of Danaher Controls of Elizabethtown weren’t content with one single donation to the Empty Stocking Fund in the amount of $300, so they matched it with another donation of $300.
The first $300 came from the Danaher Lunch Group, the culmination of an annual lunchtime effort spearheaded by Jean Gallant, who spent three days cooking up a Thanksgiving feast for fellow employees and accepted donations for the Empty Stocking Fund in return. “It’s a lot of work, but I really love to cook,” Gallant said. “And this is such a good cause, because it’s for the children.” Her co-workers know Gallant as a tremendous cook, but also more than that. “She has such a big heart for things like this,” said Sara Pegg, an inside sales rep for Danaher. “And you just can’t resist her cooking.”
Pegg then handed over a check for $300 from the Danaher Employee Volunteer Program.“We were all so inspired by what Miss Jean did, and wanted to match what was raised,” Pegg said. That money came primarily from an auction of old office furniture earlier this year for employees.“I was really impressed with what she (Jean) did,” said Jennifer Bellamine, who heads the Danaher EVP. “None of this was Danaher money, it was all from employees.”
The Empty Stocking Fund, a joint project of the Bladen Journal and the Bladen County Department of Social Services — is an effort to collect monetary donations from throughout the area to help make the holidays of less-fortunate children a little brighter. The money collected will again be used to purchase gift cards from Walmart and Leinwand’s.
