Plastic sleeve bearings are one of Thomson Nyliner's flagship products. These plastic sleeve bearings are produced in 4 types (labeled 1 -4) and have many shared characteristics. Most notable is the axial compensation gap, a standard feature of Thomson Nyliner plastic sleeve bearings. This gap allows expansion and contraction in reaction to environmental factors (such as humidity or temperature). The gap will absorb the majority of any fluctuation of the plastic sleeve bearings.

These plastic sleeve bearings come in four varieties:

  • Type 1 Thomson Nyliner bearings are plastic sleeve bearings with a carbon steel outer sleeve and a circumferential lubrication groove. Additionally, Type 1 plastic sleeve bearings can be supplied with an optional nickel-plated steel outer sleeves for use in applications that will involve mildly corrosive environments. They are available in diameters from 1/4” to 1-1/8”.
  • Type 2 Thomson Nyliner plastic sleeve bearings are similar to Type 1 bearings, except they lack the circumferential lubrication groove. Similarly, they have a carbon steel outer sleeve which can be nickel-plated for corrosive environments. They are also available in diameters from 1/4” to 1-1/8”
  • Type 3 Thomson Nyliner plastic sleeve bearings are plain plastic sleeve bearings and do not come with an external steel sleeve. They also feature a circumferential lubrication groove and are available in diameters from 3/16” to 3.” This type of plastic sleeve bearing requires a means of retaining the bearing inside of the housing bore.
  • Type 4 Thomson Nyliner plastic sleeve bearings lack the external carbon steel sleeve and lubrication groove. They are available in diameters from 3/16” to 3.”

These plastic sleeve bearings come in four varieties:

  • Carbon steel sleeved and nickel-plated steel plastic sleeve bearings are recommended for mildly corrosive environments and applications in which press-fitted installation is the preferred method of install.
  • Non-metallic plastic sleeve bearings are recommended for applications without corrosive environments.
